Irish Toasts

Much of an Irishman’s leisure time is spent celebrating. Celebration can mean many things and the smallest reason is reason enough. This is probably why more than other countries around the world there are so many known toasts. We’ve included some of our favorites for you to read and recite at your next gathering whether it’s a large event or a friend over for lunch. One of the most well known toasts is ‘Slainte!’ meaning cheers! Visiting any Irish pub in any part of the world one would hear that toast or see it in print somewhere in the pub. There are toasts that seem everyday to the people of Ireland but cause giggles in those who are unfamiliar with the Irish culture or humor. For example: “Long life to you, a wet mouth, and death in Ireland.” or “May you be in heaven a full half hour before the devil knows you’re dead.” Read on in our other toasts sections and hope you enjoy our toasts as much as we do.
