If you’re fond of Irish music, dance and culture, you’ll find that a couple of USA-based festivals offer some exceptional things to see and do.
To help you learn about the most appealing festivals in America, we’ve created a quick guide, which details a few exciting Irish “fests” which are coming up shortly.
Once you’ve discovered what these Irish-inspired celebrations have to offer, you may decide to attend the festival which is closest to you…
Because each get-together on our list is designed to help those with Irish ancestry to connect with their own heritage, they are perfect ways to familiarize yourself with the colourful and rich history of the Emerald Isle.
Even those who don’t have Gaelic heritage will benefit from attending these Irish extravaganzas, since they are, quite simply, a great deal of fun.
Now, let’s look at some of the best festivals for this season.
Irish Fest Rochester 2013 (August 30th to September 1, 2013)
If you’ll be in Rochester, New York at the end of August, be sure to drop by the exciting Rochester Irish Festival. This family-friendly event will be held at the Peace Plaza.
Tickets purchased at the event will cost only $10.00 (one-day pass), so this celebration is definitely an affordable way to have a good time.
At this year’s event, musical headlining acts will include Andy Cooney and his Band, the Dady Brothers and Dave North (among many others).
An Irish Jeopardy contest will allow contestants to prove their knowledge of Emerald Isle trivia, while a dance school will offer those who love traditional Gaelic dancing the chance to learn this wonderful art form, up close and personal.
In addition, an Irish author, storyteller, lecturer and broadcaster named Eddie Lenihan will entertain crowds with some classic Emerald Isle fairy tales.
Pittsburgh Irish Festival 2013 (September 6th to September 8th, 2013)
This festival was created in order to demonstrate the richness and importance of Irish (and Irish-American) history and culture.
Now a popular yearly event, the festival is scheduled for early September, 2013, at the Riverplex (at Sandcastle, near the Waterfront in West Homestead/Pittsburgh).
Events scheduled for this year’s celebration include a Children’s Irish Dance Matinee, musical acts, The Screaming Orphans and the Bastard Bearded Irishmen, and the Macdonald Pipe Band of Pittsburgh.
There are tons of other fun things to see and do at this Irish fest, including an Irish Love Stories seminar that will bring the magic of Irish romance to colourful life.
One-day tickets are $12.00 dollars at the gate (seniors will pay a lower rate). Children aged 12 and under attend for free.
So, why not gather the whole family and have a great time at this acclaimed Pittsburgh event?
