Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin –
This famous cathedral is also known as The Church Of The Holy Trinity, and it remains one of Dublin’s most important attractions. Constructed in 1038 by a Viking King, it was created for the very first Bishop of Dublin.
This medieval cathedral features a renovated interior which is a composite of Victorian work and the original, ancient craftsmanship.
Its stone façade is smooth and expertly constructed, and it features two complementary tones of mason work. Decorative windows in careful vaulted, oval or “flower” shapes are used to add ornateness, and turrets with pointed rooftops contribute to the Cathedral’s dramatic silhouette.
The history of this cathedral makes it special: if you want to visit the place where King Henry the Second had his first communion, make a point of seeing Christchurch Cathedral. The King’s first communion is just one of many notable events that have taken place within its ancient walls…
St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin –
Located at Saint Patrick’s Close in Dublin, this stunning cathedral features beautiful sculpture, as well as the glorious high spire that highlights its facade.
Built in the 11th century, this cathedral honors the legacy of Ireland’s patron Saint Patrick, who spent his life converting the Irish to Christianity. His desire to root out Paganism and lead the Irish to Christ was shown through a lifetime of service – he constructed churches, schools, and a whole community devoted to his religious beliefs.
Today, visitors to Saint Patrick’s Cathedral can enjoy the rich history of this landmark structure – through the centuries, this cathedral has been subject to religious reformations, damages and restorations, and generations of worshippers who have come to gain solace and to pray within its hallowed walls…
