A Quick Overview Of Irish Gaeilge

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

For most Irish people, English has become their first language. Only a minority of the country can speak Irish at a native level, despite the fact that learning it is a mandatory requirement within the Irish school system.

The most recent consensus indicates that roughly 4% of the country’s six million inhabitants speak Irish Gaeilge as a first language, a number that has continued to shrink over the long term. Irish Gaeilge’s sister language of Scottish Gaelic is in a similar predicament, and Manx Gaelic is now completely extinct as a first language (the three Goidelic languages). …continue reading A Quick Overview Of Irish Gaeilge

November Facebook Competition – Mid-Month Report

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Well, it’s half way through the month, and we’ve got some great entries in the Facebook competition, but unfortunately there’s been no voting. After reviewing the competition format, I now realise that it’s way over complicated to try to get people voting. I only wish Facebook had some easier ways to  implement competition ideas. I’m sure they will eventually, I hope!

In the meantime, I’m going to continue the competition based on the stories that people post, and I’ll be the judge of the best story/comment myself. I kinda like the idea of being a judge anyway!

I’d love to see more stories/comments from people. If you know other Celtic jewelry lovers, why not share the page with them and they can enter the competition too.

Remember, there’s a FREE silver Celtic jewelry piece of your choice for the winner.

As I said above, there’s some great stories in there already. I wanted to post one here to whet your appetite. Here’s a wonderful story by Susan Reardon Clennan about the Tara’s Diary bracelet:

I love the Tara’s Diary bracelet. I purchased one as soon as it was available from Irish Celtic Jewels. I have had great fun collecting different charms; each one symobolizes something in my life. This particular charm with the dangling Claddagh brings me back to memories of my Mother who adored all things Irish. Her parents originally came from Ireland and she grew up listening to the stories and folklore they told her. My Mom passed these stories down to us,her children. We loved the story of the Claddagh, the symbolism behind it. I can’t help but smile when I look at my Tara bracelet and catch sight of the Claddagh charm, it bring great memories of my Mom sitting at the kitchen table telling us stories of Ireland. Though she is no longer here with us, her words live on in our hearts and minds. It’s a wonderful thing to have something like this charm to set off memories from long ago. And the Claddagh symbolizes every thing you wish for the people in your life.

claddagh-and-celtic

Today’s woman is looking for more from her wedding jewelry. Luckily, our newest wedding band offers a wealth of details to create a romantic feeling that is uniquely Irish.

We’re proud to showcase our newest design: the Claddagh and Celtic Wedding Ring, with a matching gents ring available.

A traditional Claddagh Ring always features three distinctive symbols: the crowned heart, which symbolizes loyalty in love, and the tiny hands, so protective and caring, that hold it carefully in place.

By using the classic symbols of the Claddagh in a new and refreshing way, past and present are joined together for today’s discerning bride.

Exquisite engraving and painstaking attention to detail are the hallmarks of this exceptional piece. 14k gold is embellished with a single, shining diamond.

Flanking the Claddagh symbols are two delicately rendered Trinity Knots, which represent faith. The Trinity Knot is a symbol of the Holy Trinity.

This wedding band is the perfect complement to a Celtic  engagement ring, and its charm lies in its richly detailed surface.

If you are looking for a wedding band that offers more style, dimension, and meaning, you’ll enjoy this handcrafted ring…for a lifetime.

However, the three Aran Islands of West Ireland offer much more than stunning rock formations to today’s tourists: the culture of this rugged, exposed region is unique and unforgettable. …continue reading The Magic Of Ireland’s Aran Islands
